What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Here at EduFin, we’ve recently added an additional element of security to our hosting software using Multi-factor Authentication, otherwise known as MFA. With over 80 percent of hacking-related breaches being caused by stolen or weak passwords, the need for more robust security authentication is at an all time high.

So what is MFA and why does it play a crucial role in sustaining the protection of your data?

Multi-factor authentication makes it much more difficult for the average cyber criminal to access and steal your information and data. The less easy it is to access the data, the more likely that attackers will switch to another target and a less secure system,

How does it work?

Multi -factor authentication is a strong security method that uses two layers to verify a users identity. This means, rather than simply entering the usual factor (eg. a password) to log into an account or service, two-factor authentication requires a code to be sent via text message to the users phone number or generated through an app.

In short, by incorporating Two-Factor Authentication, thieves are unable to access your accounts without acquiring your physical device which is needed to complete the second factor. The greatest advantage of strong authentication on your precious data is knowing that even if a threat has access to your username and password they’ll struggle to mimic the second factor code.

So there you have it! If you have any further questions on how MFA works within our hosting service - EduFin Connect, please drop us a line and we’d be more than happy to help.
